How to play

Choosing a word

Tap or click any white cell. The word it belongs to lights up in yellow, and its clue appears in the bar above the grid.

Where two words cross, tap the same cell again to switch between Across and Down. In a scanword you can also tap the clue cell itself.

Typing

On a computer, just type — no need to switch your keyboard layout: if your keyboard is set to English, the keys type the letters of the puzzle's language in their usual places.

On a phone or tablet, the puzzle's own keyboard appears below the grid. For Armenian it has the single letters ՈՒ and և, each filling one cell; typing ո then ւ joins them into ՈՒ automatically.

In Russian puzzles the letter Ё is written as Е, as in printed crosswords.

Moving around

Arrow keys move between cells; an arrow across the current direction first turns the cursor. Enter jumps to the next clue, Shift+Enter to the previous one.

Backspace clears a letter and steps back. Home and End jump to the start and end of the word. Tab leaves the grid.

Getting help

Check marks wrong letters with a red strike-through and locks the right ones. Reveal fills in a letter, a word or the whole puzzle; revealed letters carry a small purple flag.

Turn on “Check as I type” in the settings if you'd like instant feedback.

Fresh words, every time

Your device remembers the words it has shown you and never asks for them again. Every new puzzle is made of words you haven't met here yet.
